On February 22 at 14:00, Antwerp will host a concert by the legendary bard, poet and playwright Yuliy Kim titled “Let’s Speak Softly, Let’s Speak Half-Voice”.
Yuliy Kim is one of the most prominent representatives of the first wave of bards. His name stands alongside masters such as Vysotsky, Okudzhava, Galich and Visbor. A unique combination of poetic talent, dramatic depth and refined stage culture makes his work multilayered and consistently relevant.
Kim is one of the most “theatrical” bards of Russia. His songs are familiar to audiences from numerous iconic films and theatre productions, including:

— “The Twelve Chairs”
— “The House That Swift Built”
— “Bumbarash”
— “A Man from the Boulevard des Capucines”
— “Little Red Riding Hood”
— “The Mustached Nanny”
— “Heart of a Dog”
As well as dozens of stage productions such as “As You Like It”, “The Minor”, “Kim-Tango Unlimited” and the musicals “Monte Cristo”, “Count Orlov”, “Once in Odessa”.
Yuliy Kim is a laureate of the Bulat Okudzhava State Prize and the “Poet” Award (2015), and a member of the Writers’ Union, the Filmmakers’ Union and the PEN Club. He is also known for his involvement in the human rights movement of the 1960s — his “subversive songs” became an important part of cultural history and a symbol of civic courage.
The program “Let’s Speak Softly, Let’s Speak Half-Voice” brings together iconic songs from different years — works filled with wit, wisdom, irony and inner freedom. Kim’s personal commentary turns the concert into a deep, warm and sincere dialogue with the audience.
