Lufthansa pilots launch two-day strike
Pilots at the German airline Lufthansa have started a two-day strike. The industrial action began on the morning of March 12 and is scheduled to continue until the end of March 13.
The strike was called by the pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit. It involves pilots from Lufthansa, Lufthansa Cargo and the regional airline Lufthansa Cityline.
The dispute is linked to ongoing negotiations regarding working conditions, salaries and pension arrangements for pilots.
Union estimates suggest that around 300 flights per day may be cancelled during the strike. The airline’s main hubs in Frankfurt and Munich are expected to be most affected.
Despite the strike, Lufthansa plans to maintain part of its flight schedule. Up to 60 percent of long-haul flights are expected to operate.
Passengers are advised to check the status of their flights before travelling.
